Duplex Natural Gas Filters

Duplex Natural Gas Filters: Natural Gas applications are critical for running a Plant in terms of non-stop operation. Fuel typically feeds a Gas Engine or a Gas Turbine. In such situations it is imperative to have 100% availability. Duplex Natural Gas Filters serve this purpose. Duplex Natural Gas Filters consist of 2 x 100% capacity Fuel Gas filters mounted in parallel. Duplex Natural Gas Filters are configured with 2 + 2 changeover valves and safety valves, drain and vent valves. Front panel designed to display pressure, temperature and differential pressure readings. Duplex configuration enables continuous operation without any downtime for change of filter elements. When the 1st Natural Gas Filter is taken off-line for maintenance, the 2nd Natural Gas Filter is valved-in to permit non-stop operation. DELTA Duplex Natural Gas Filters are employed in various Gas Engine and Gas Turbine applications. We have installations in India and various countries across the world. 1. What is a duplex gas filter?
A duplex gas filter is a filtration skid built around two fuel gas filters, each rated for 100% of the required capacity, arranged in parallel. The idea is redundancy. If one filter needs attention, the other is already there to take over, so the gas engine or turbine never loses fuel supply.

2. Why not just use a single filter for gas engines and turbines?
A single filter means downtime every time the element needs changing, since you have to stop gas flow to service it. Plants running gas engines or turbines usually can’t afford that kind of interruption, which is exactly why duplex systems exist: one filter stays in service while the other is serviced.

3. How does switching between the two filters actually work?
Each skid comes fitted with 2+2 changeover valves, plus safety, drain, and vent valves. When Filter 1 is due for maintenance, an operator simply valves in Filter 2. Gas keeps flowing the entire time, with no gap in supply during the switch.

4. Can these filters handle a sudden increase in flow demand?
They can. Both filters can run at once if needed, pushing total capacity up to 200% of the standard rating. That’s a useful margin to have if a plant is planning future expansion and doesn’t want to replace the filtration system down the line.

5. Where are DELTA duplex gas filters typically used?
Mostly in settings where fuel gas has to keep moving no matter what: power plants, steel mills, refineries. Anywhere gas engines or turbines are running critical loads, a stoppage for filter maintenance simply isn’t an option, and that’s the gap duplex filters fill.

6. What construction standards do these filters meet?
Vessels are built to ASME Section VIII Division I, with every weld joint radiographed. Filtration itself relies on pleated borosilicate glass fibre elements, chosen for low pressure loss and a longer stretch between maintenance cycles. Units also ship with third-party inspection sign-off from bodies like Bureau Veritas, SGS, DNV, and TUV-SUD.
